How to Use Sprayers for Clear Stains

    • 1). Fill the fluid canister with clear stain and screw the gun back on for pressure-pot guns. For airless guns just open the canister and add stain.

    • 2). Hold the gun 8 inches from the surface of the wood.

    • 3). Pull the trigger as you sweep the spray gun along the wood parallel to its grain. Spray a band of clear stain the length of the grain. When you come to the end of the grain, release the trigger.

    • 4). Spray another band of stain overlapping the first band by 1 inch. Continue spraying bands of clear stain over the surface of the wood until it is completely wet with stain. Spray down inside cracks, crevasses, edges and corners, wetting every exposed surface with stain.

    • 5). Wipe off the excess stain with a soft cloth and let the stain dry for 72 hours if you plan to add a surface coat of lacquer or varnish.
