- The G3616 Gas Engine Generator Set produces only 0.7 grams of nitrogen oxide per horsepower hour when operating at 900 revolutions per minute (rpm), fewer emissions than standard generators. The gas engine lasts longer than diesel engines because it runs at lower bearing loads and cylinder pressures. It works at different speeds and can run on different types of fuels. It comes with air cleaners and filters to keep dust and debris from entering systems.
- The compression ratio of the 16-cylinder engine is 9.2 to 1. The engine bore (cylinder diameter) and stroke are 11.8 inches. The engine displacement is 20,700 cubic inches. The engine uses up to 6,590 British thermal units per horsepower hour (Btu/hp-hr) when at 100 percent load and up to 6,805 Btu/hp-hr at 75 percent load.
- The total weight of the generator is 141,840 pounds. It is 366.7 inches long by 83.5 inches wide. It requires fuel pressure of at least 45 pounds per square inch (psi) to operate. It produces a maximum of 3,049 kilowatts and up to 480 volts. It has a maximum air inlet flow rate of 11,434 standard cubic feet per minute (scfm). According to the G3616 manual, the unit is 96 percent efficient when working at a 0.8 power factor.
- The G3616 Gas Engine Generator Set includes a voltage regular. The generator, Caterpillar notes, "Includes two self lubricated sleeve bearings, 100 ohm RTD's, two per phase in stator and one per bearing." It includes an over-voltage protection feature that keeps your generator from overloading. This component automatically resets itself. Caterpillar sells this generator with three different voltage settings: 13,800, 4,160 and 480.
