Home Remedies to Get Rid of Insects

    Vinegar

    • Vinegar is useful for eliminating insects. Spraying vinegar on your window and door frames and under appliances will keep ants away. Adding vinegar to your pet's drinking water will keep the water from being visited by fleas. If there are spots in the house that are particularly attracted by fruit flies, wash those spots with apple cider vinegar or place a bowl of vinegar on those places. If there are flies in the house, add a little dish soap, 2 tsp. of apple cider vinegar and 1 tsp. of sugar to a shallow plastic container. The flies are attracted to vinegar, and the soap in the mixture will kill them. Pour a gallon of white vinegar in your mop water and mop your floor to drive away dust mites. As vinegar does not contain toxic substances, you can use it freely around pets, children and food.

    Baking Soda and Sugar

    • Mix baking soda and sugar in equal quantities and spray the mixture on cockroach-infested areas of the house. Cockroaches will be happy to eat sugar together with baking soda or sodium bicarbonate, which will upset their stomachs and will ultimately kill them. This home remedy gets rid of ants, earwigs and spiders as well.

    Boric Acid

    • Boric acid is an effective insect killer. Sprinkle it on places where the insects are likely to walk. The insects are likely to get some on their bodies and ingest it during preening themselves. Boric acid is known to eat the insect's body, and insects cannot become immune to it. In addition to this, sprinkle boric acid on soggy crackers and place them in cabinets if they are infected with insects. The insects will eat the crackers and carry the boric acid to their nests. Ingestion, of course, will prove to be toxic for them.

    Cucumbers

    • Ants hate cucumbers and cucumber peels. Locate the place where the ants enter the house and spread some bitter cucumber peels around the area. This recipe will keep not only ants but wasps, moths, flies and mites from entering the house.
