Instructions
1Choose what type of weapon will be used to hunt feral hogs. Most hunters prefer a hunting rifle, yet some choose bow hunting. Bow hunting feral hogs is generally more challenging than with a rifle. Consider using tree stands when bow hunting to get closer to the animal.
2
Set up a box blind to hide amongst the animals. Box blinds allow the hunter to stay at ground level to observe and hunt the feral hog. Be patient and allow the full number of hogs to wander into the open before firing.
3
Use sponges soaked in pheromones to attract and keep boars in the area. Using a sow-in-heat product brings in the boars and keeps them close while the hunter chooses a trophy hog.
4
Create nesting areas for sows. Taking cleared cedar trees and making a good pile encourages sows to build nests for the young. Allow the young to mature to eight years of age before harvesting them.
5
Consider trapping and castrating feral hogs. This method will produce a larger meat hog that has no desire or physical need to fight to the death for in-heat sows. This lets the feral hog grow to unusually large proportions for a greater trophy.
