5 hour energy is an energy drink of small proportions.
It claims to provide the consumer 5 hours of energy, but how does that work with such a small serving? The answer is, through the ingredients of course! Not surprisingly you will find a significant amount of caffeine packed into the small bottle.
While the bottle clearly states it contains "an amount of caffeine comparable to a premium cup of coffee," the actual amount is debatable.
Other energy enhancing ingredients include large portions of B Vitamins, which are responsible for helping your body convert carbohydrates, proteins, starches and fats into energy.
B vitamins are a wonderful thing, and having them in energy drink makes sense especially since they play such a big part in the energy creating process.
You probably are saying, "Well caffeine and B Vitamins are in every energy drink, how that makes 5 hour energy special?" Well your right, it doesn't.
What does make this energy drink special is the absence of sugar.
If you've seen the commercials you have probably seen how them bashing other energy drinks for containing excessive amounts of sugar.
The fact is, because 5 hour energy has no sugar, it won't give you a crash.
Why no crash? Your body is constantly battling for homeostasis; it wants to stay one way.
Sugar offsets its balance, and when this happens it pumps insulin through your body to bring it back to homeostasis.
This fluctuation can create what many people call the "crash" effect.
