- 1). Place the two 6"x12" pieces of MDF perpendicular to each other so that they form a right angle. Screw the two pieces together at the joint, using the drill and the 2-inch wood screws. Cut the 5" square piece of MDF diagonally down the middle, using the band saw. Place the new triangle pieces between the two pieces of MDF to form gussets in the wood. Attach the triangle pieces to the MDF right angle piece, using the drill and the 2-inch wood screws.
- 2). Place the log on the ground. Snap a chalkline down the middle of the log using the chalk line tool to aid as a guide when ripping down the log. Place the log on top of the band saw.
- 3). Place the MDF assembly you made in step 1 against the side of the log so that the vertical edge of the assembly is against the log itself. Screw two 4-inch wood screws through the MDF assembly and into the log to act as a guide and a stand to support the log and minimize wandering of the band saw blade.
- 4). Put on the hearing protection, then turn on the band saw. Run the log through the band saw, using the chalk line as a guide and being sure to keep the MDF assembly flat. Remove the screws holding the MDF assembly to the log with the drill once the log is ripped.
