- 1). Register to vote in Colorado if you haven't done so already. In order to register to vote in Colorado, you must be a resident of the state for at least 30 days, a U.S. citizen and 18 or older. In addition, you must be registered to vote at least one week or more before precinct caucuses begin. You must also be a member of the political party hosting the caucus at least two months prior to the caucus date to register to vote for the purpose of participating in a precinct caucus. The only exception is for voters turning 18 or those becoming a U.S. citizen less than two months before the caucus. These voter groups can attend a caucus without registering to vote and without declaring membership in a political party. You can register to vote with the Colorado Secretary of State's office.
- 2). Contact your county central committee or executive committee of your party membership to find out the time and place of precinct caucuses occurring in your community. These committees are responsible for determining this information and notifying the public with signs posted in the community 12 days or more in advance of the caucus.
- 3). Attend the precinct caucus. Upon arrival, you need to provide your name to be checked off the voter registration list and a photo ID. Once confirmation is given, you're free to participate in the caucus process. While participating in the caucus, you may be asked to elect a precinct officer whose role it is to manage election activities in the precinct. In addition, you may vote for delegates and alternates who are responsible for representing your caucus at your county or district convention held later that same year. You also vote for a candidate and issues you support as part of the caucus process. The results are tabulated and provided to the county central committee or executive committee.
