Talking politics and religion can get us all into a lot of unfortunate situations at work, or with extended family, and yet, America needs to keep the political dialogues open, it's healthy to talk about these things and understand where our nation has been and where we are going.
One of the best places to go to have a political discussion is to a place of neutral ground, like for instance a coffee shop or online.
Not too long ago, I had the pleasure of having just such a discussion, and my acquaintance stated: "Americans just don't get that and have gotten caught up in seeing things in black and white colors, Republican vs.
Democrat, left vs.
right, etc.
I am closer to the Libertarian positions, a fiscal conservative, but liberal on social issues albeit a registered Republican.
" Interesting, you know, I once took one of those online tests with 100 questions that were political in nature and on their little chart I came out to be a libertarian leaning three quarters towards Republican.
Whatever that means, so I guess that is my classification, about where Ronald Reagan would have been, if asked the same questions during his pre-election drive to the White House.
Today, I no longer vote because I believe voting is a trick to get everyone on the same page and to accept the outcome of the vote, no matter how you voted, going along with majority rule.
Indeed, I do not accept in advance the mindless masses decisions, because I believe they more often vote without really putting good thought and reason to their decisions.
Moreover, it is my contention that whatever the TV tells them to vote for, they will.
And so, if everyone voted to jump off a cliff, I would not follow them and therefore it is irrelevant what everyone thinks.
Everyone may vote for socialist style civilization, I don't, nor do I wish to be doomed to repeat the past.
Please consider all this.
