The Political Firestorm Over Contraception Considered

With all the problems going on around the world, not to mention here at home with high unemployment, minor disturbances of civil unrest, inclement weather, and an uncertainty of the financial success of a good many American families, we see that the media instead wishes to concentrate on a political firestorm over contraception.
It's really a silly matter, in that there were a couple of issues in a recent piece of healthcare legislation which made it mandatory for employers to pay for contraception pills even if those employers were churches which are against contraception.
Obviously, if the church is against contraception they don't want to be funding something they considered to be sinful.
I mean that goes without saying right? So, why is this even an issue, but it appears that it is an issue because it is a law that Congress enacted.
First of all, why did they do it, secondly why did the president sign it, and don't we have better things to do than create nonsensical political controversy that has no business in our society and civilization whatsoever anyway? And mind you I'm not even a religious believer, but I just cannot understand why the government wishes to impose its will to such a degree as to enforce laws on religious groups that go against the very thing they stand for.
It makes no sense.
There was an interesting article in the Wall Street Journal on February 11, 2012.
It was on the front page and the article was titled; "Obama Retreats on Contraception - President Tries to Quiet Critics by Relaxing Requirement That Set off Firestorm; Catholic Reaction Mixed," by Lois Radnofsky, Laura Meckler, and Carol E Lee.
The article stated; "Some Catholics expressed relief but others were unmoved after president Barack Obama loosened a requirement that religious employers cover contraception in healthcare plans, and issue that had turned into a political firestorm in recent weeks.
" Now then, don't we have better things to do? In fact, I was talking to a Catholic gentleman, an acquaintance of mine who is very into his religion, he knows that I am of no religion, but we still sit down for coffee and talk.
He humorously asked me the question; "What if Obama's mother used contraceptives?" I laughed, but I didn't bother to acknowledge what he was getting at, that the country would somehow be better off.
No, I am not an Obama supporter either, but it seems that we are taking the political controversy to a level of absurdity in this country, and we need to knock it off.
It just doesn't make any sense.
We don't need the distraction.
We don't need created controversy, created realities, or nonsensical debates over things that shouldn't have been in the first place.
Indeed I hope you will please consider all this and think on it.
