- The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism says alcoholism can make people feel less inhibited, can cause communication problems or can make the drinker think he isn't responsible for his actions, which all factor into abusive behavior.
- A woman who has difficulty controlling her temper can lash out at her child and hurt him even if if she hadn't intended to.
- DoSomething.org recognizes that teen parents constitute a large number of abuses. An older adult who is emotionally immature is also susceptible to this behavior.
