Website Copywriting - Title Tags, Alt Tags, and Keywords - How to Write Search Engine Friendly Pages

Your web designer will probably never ask you for search engine friendly terms, and you're likely to leave it to them anyway.
They're the designer after all.
  Big mistake.
  Web designers design websites.
Obvious? Not really.
Web design is a craft.
Keyword research is a science, and a boring one at that.
And frankly, why would your web designer care if your keywords are the best? Once they've completed your site, it's not their responsibility to make sure it helps your business.
The only person that cares about the success of your site is you.
So learn a little about these terms mean, do your research, and make sure your designer includes them.
And if you're creating your own site, it's essential to include search-engine friendly content and key words.
Below is a short tutorial on the basics (it's really quite easy-not esoteric at all)   KEYWORDS: The public doesn't see your keywords, they're for the search engines only.
The first step is to create a list of keyword and key phrases.
Start with a manageable ten that you think web searchers would be most inclined to type into a search engine.
GARDENING SITE EXAMPLE: Shovels, Hoses, Rake, Pruning scissors...
The secret to good keywords tags is to do your research, and focus on 1-2 keywords per page.
TITLE: The title is what you see at the very top of every web page.
It's not the headline of your page or the URL address.
On PC's it's usually on a blue background, on Macs it's usually on a grey background.
The title words are usually followed by the name of the browser you're on.
GARDENING SITE EXAMPLE: Best Quality Gardening Equipment - Mozilla Firefox The key to a good title is to include your top keyword or key phrase within the first five words of the title.
PAGE DESCRIPTION: The text you see on the search engine results page.
Visitors see this first, so it really has to hook people in.
Add 2-3 keywords to your description, but don't make it sound stilted - you'll lose traffic.
The key here is to write 1-2 sentences that clearly describe exactly what the page offers - no funny business, just a true representation of your offer.
Google's gotten smart over the years...
Before you rush out and scream at your web designer or change your website, remember this is a small portion of what goes into the website success formula.
It gets a lot of hype because it's easy for web developers to include but these elements alone will not drive traffic to your site.
