How to Write Directions for Making Something in Sequential Order

    • 1). Write one or two words that tell about the directions you are giving.Example: Make a picture

    • 2). Make a list of everything that a person will need to make a picture. Example: markers, paper

    • 3). Make a list of the steps the person will need to take to make the picture. Example:--Get a piece of colored paper--Give the picture to a parent--Color the picture with markers--Draw a picture on the paper

    • 4). Write the steps in the order that they should be done. Remove any step that does not belong. Example:--Get a piece of colored paper and some markers.--Draw a picture on the paper.--Color the picture with markers.--Give your picture to a parent.

    • 5). Use words such as first, second, third or first, next, finally, or use numbers (1, 2, 3, 4) when giving instructions.
