Do I Have a Mood Disorder?

The majority of the worlds population suffers from some sort of mental disorder.
Is this a bold statement? No.
The truth is always disheartening.
We live in a fast paced, high stress environment.
Our families are dysfunctional, our relationships are dysfunctional and we are dysfunctional.
People have become too aggressive, quick tempered and emotionally unstable as a result of our distressing environments that have become the status quo from the moment we have been born.
So now that we know the factors that affect our psychological well being...
it isn't so hard to see why half of the world suffers from a mood disorder.
How do I know if I have a mood disorder? 1.
Do you have rapid changes in mood? One moment you are happy and joyful and the next moment you are depressed and or angry? 2.
Do you go through periods of intense highs and lows? For example, one week or day or month, you'd be so happy that you think you're on top of the world or having the best life possible.
Then, the next week, you are so depressed; all you can think about is death or suicide? 3.
Do you sometimes see, feel or hear things that may be fantastical or not real? 4.
Do you sometimes have racing thoughts or have millions of ideas at the same time that it feels as though you've suddenly become a genius? 5.
Do you have insomnia or go through periods when it is impossible for you to sleep? 6.
Do you have increased energy with decreased appetite sometimes? 7.
Do you feel superhuman or sometimes feel that you may have super powers? (No this isn't a trick question;) ) 8.
Does your temper get out of control sometimes? If you experience some, most or all of the above symptoms, then it is highly advised that you seek counseling with a psychologist or psychiatrist.
The probability of you having a mood disorder is very high.
Should you be afraid? In short...
No.
Having a mood disorder or the possibility of having a mood disorder is nothing to lose sleep over.
It isn't a lethal disease.
There are many things you can do if diagnosed by a psychiatrist as having a mood disorder.
He or she may prescribe drugs to "re balance" you.
The common drug for this is Depakote or the doctor may prescribe various anti depressants.
If you are not keen on taking drugs, then there are many holistic options available to you such as meditation or yoga.
Remember there are always multiple solutions to every problem.
So make sure you weigh all your treatment options before following any specific course.
