1. Lock Up

This one isn't cheap - it is free. Make sure to lock your doors and windows at all times, when you are entering and leaving your home. Check locks before you go to bed, and get any faulty closures fixed or replaced in the moment you notice that there is a problem.

2. Get a Sticker

If you can't afford to protect your home with an elaborate home security or home alarm system just yet, not everyone needs to know. You can get a sticker or sign to place in your window or yard that says your home is protected by an alarm - you're the only one who will know it's not.

3. Gather Neighbors

Organize a neighborhood watch program, phone tree or other type of effort in your area when it comes to staying safe. Have a meeting with neighbors to throw ideas around and make a decision about what you can do together to stay safe.

4. Used Goods
