- 1). Press the "Menu" button on your television's remote control to enter the "Settings" menu.
- 2). Use the arrow buttons on the remote control to navigate to the option that reads "Parental Controls." Note that this may have its own category on certain models of television sets, or it may be found under the "Settings" menu. Also, it may be referred to by your menu as "V-Chip" if your TV has an officially licensed V-Chip inside of it.
- 3). Enter a multi-digit pass code. This is designed to prevent just anyone from being able to alter or turn off parental controls. The default pass code on most television sets is "0000" without quotation marks. Write down your pass code so you don't forget it.
- 4). Specify which programming you'd like to "Lock Out" off your television based on its TV rating. The TV rating describes exactly what type of content is being displayed. For example, "TV-G" is similar to a G-rated movie in that it has been deemed appropriate for all ages. "TV-MA," on the other hand, often features adult content and is not suitable for younger viewers.
You can also specify entire channels to be "locked out" of your television. These channels will simply be skipped over when flipping through the stations. - 5). Press the "Menu" button on your remote control to save your changes and exit out of the menu. The television set will now be locked to your specifications.
