- 1). Open PaintShop Pro and open the graphic image or file you wish to optimize.
- 2). Click the "File" tab at the top of the program and then click "Export."
- 3). Select one of the optimizer options. If you wish to optimize a JPEG, select "JPEG Optimizer." To optimize a GIF, select "GIF Optimizer." Select "PNG Optimizer" to optimize a PNG file.
- 4). Click the "Quality" tab within any of the optimizers and find the slider that enables you to set the compression value. By raising the compression value, you lower the resolution and the file size. In small increments, the quality will not change greatly but you will be able to decrease the file size. There will be a point, however, where you will see on the preview screen that the image quality is decreasing to the point where the image quality is inferior.
- 5). Set the compression value at the number that provides a satisfactory resolution and a file size you desire by placing the slider bar at the appropriate number.
- 6). Click the "OK" button at the bottom of the window and select the location you wish to save the copy of your image. Name the image a different name from the original to keep them separate and click "Save" to finish reducing the size of the file and saving it.
