Red wine can have numerous health benefits, but it can also be a terrific ingredient to cook with too.
There are different flavonoids and nonflavonnoids in red wine call resveratrol.
This chemical actually helps the heart in certain case studies.
The key to drinking red wine is to use and drink it in moderation.
Red wine only in moderation can be heart healthy.
Red wine has high amounts of antioxidants and may prevent heart disease as well as raising the levels of good cholesterol within the body.
It also may protect the arteries from damage.
For most people, drinking one glass of wine a day is plenty to absorb these vital antioxidants.
Lets us talk about resveratrol.
There has been research on this antioxidant, and it has been seen to help protect against obesity and diabetes.
As you know, diabetes and obesity are large risk factors for cardiovascular disease.
Resveratrol has also been associated with less risk of blood clotting and inflammation.
Red wine will enhance the flavor of the food you may be cooking.
The wine works well with deglazing the pan and making sauces.
Deglazing means to pour the alcoholic beverage into a hot pan and the scrape away any of the food particles within the pan, so everything becomes loose.
Then, if you want to make a sauce, you would add a thickener such as flour or corn starch.
Season the sauce to the right consistency and strain into a container and serve.
Another great use of red wine is to use it when sautéing food items.
An excellent example of this is when sautéing mushrooms, through a half a cup of wine into the pan.
What this will do is enhance the flavors of the mushrooms because of the alcohol content, but also the wine will evaporate, so you cannot get intoxicated from the mushrooms.
Try different foods with wine and document what wine goes best with particular foods.
