- 1). Determine your grades for the semester. To illustrate an example, let's say it's your first semester in college and you want to calculate your GPA for the four classes that you completed. You received two "A"s, a "B" and a "C" in your classes.
- 2). Give each of your grades a numerical value. When calculating GPA, each letter grade is worth the following value:
A = 4 points
B = 3 points
C = 2 points
D = 1 point
F = no points
Your two "A"s, "B" and "C" equal 13 points. - 3). Calculate the GPA by dividing four into 13 points for a GPA of 3.25.
- 4). Figure out your accumulated GPA by using the same formula. Take the total number of points for your college career and divide that number by the total number of classes taken. For example, if you took four classes each semester for a total of three semesters, you've taken 12 classes. If you received an "A" in six classes and a "B" in six classes, the total points equal 42. Divide 42 by 12 for a cumulative GPA of 3.5.
