- 1). Take your cell phone to your local recycling center. Most stores that sell cell phones have a collection box to recycle the cell phones you are no longer using. If you are unsure as to where one may be in your area, you can find one by using the Call 2 Recycle drop-off locator (see Resources). Just type in your zip code and the nearest recycling center will show up.
- 2). Donate your unused cell phone to a charitable organization. There are many programs that accept old cell phones to help soldiers or single abused women. You can call your local shelters and senior centers to find one that would be interested in taking your phone. If you want to donate your cell phone to a soldier, you can type your zip code in to the Cell Phones for Soldiers locator box (see Resources). Then just take your cell phone to the nearest location listed on your screen.
- 3). Sell your old cell phone for cash. This won't make you rich, but it will give you a few dollars you can put toward your next cell phone purchase. Plus, you won't be leaving your cell phone in a landfill. Several companies, such as PaceButler.com and CellforCash.com, will gladly pay you cash for your unused phones. They will either send you an envelope to mail your phone in, or they will allow you to print out a shipping label so that you can mail the phone in yourself.
