- Today's modern interiors, particularly living rooms and great rooms, tend to have high vaulted ceilings and expanses of glazing and windows. These designs give a spacious, unconfined and regal feel to indoor spaces. They can also, however, be difficult to decorate: The scale of items needed to anchor such a space are costly and hard to find. Silk palms are a excellent solution; their height and wide-top foliage create an anchor in the space and help fill some of the volume, making the interior feel cozier, lived-in and more welcoming. The airiness of palm-frond foliage keeps them from making a space feel oppressive.
- Silk palm trees can be placed adjacent to windows, French doors, loft openings--even up against bathroom shower enclosures and many other places in the home, to provide privacy and filter light. In windows where you don't always want the drapes closed and if you don't like the look of privacy sheers, a silk palm or two can screen a view into or out of the window without obstructing light flow.
- A key principal in design is to create a flow and rhythm that moves the eye around an interior space. Silk palms in decorative pots can play such a role. Used symmetrically or in odd numbers, grouped or placed sporadically around the room, the palms serve to move the eye up and around an interior, enhancing the sense of spaciousness.
