- 1). Soak the item in a bowl or sink of warm, soapy water -- if water won't harm it. Add a little vinegar if you want. You also can soak several white paper towels in warm water and lay them over the label. If the glue is water-soluble, the water will dissolve the glue and the label will release. If it doesn't work, or leaves bits of the label intact, dry off the item and continue to Step 2.
- 2). Heat the sticker with a hand-held hair dryer if the item is plastic, glass or wood. Pull up one edge of the sticker and peel it away from the surface as you continue applying heat between the sticker and the surface. If you try this on a metal object, wear work gloves to protect your hands from the hot surface.
- 3). Apply salad oil or bath oil to the surface of the sticker. Let it soak for a few minutes. Scrape the sticker off, using the dull edge of a dinner knife.
- 4). Scrape off a sticker, using a single-edge razor blade held at a right angle to the surface. Use this method only on surfaces such as glass that won't be marred by the blade.
- 5). Apply a spot remover or grease remover product to the sticker. Scratch at the label a little to expose the sticky underpart. Soak a paper towel with the remover and place it over the sticker, then scrape the sticker off. Don't try this method on a soft plastic item.
