The Science of Anxiety Disorders

Panic attacks and all kinds of anxiety plague essentially all humans around the world.
Much of this anxiety is caused by real problems, and is a natural response to a stressful situation.
However, people who develop anxiety disorders feel anxiety when there is no real stimulus, and this can be a significant problem.
Panic disorder especially is one of the worst anxiety disorders, because it can majorly interrupt your life and there is no way to hide it.
When a panic attack starts, it is going to carry itself out, and it does not matter whether you are alone, in the car, or in a social situation.
Our worlds are created by our brains.
Each of us have our awareness, knowledge, and perception thanks to the brain, this amazing mechanism which can generate both immense pleasure and horribly destructive pain.
How the brain works is the key to many disorders, both mental and physical.
For example, schizophrenia is caused by too much dopamine, which is a neurotransmitter that normally affects pleasure.
Anxiety and depression are related to the balances of serotonin and norepinephrine.
Depression is caused by low amounts of serotonin and norepinephrine, although some researchers believe that serotonin is a regulatory neurotransmitter.
This is because the manic episodes of bipolar disorder occur when there is low serotonin and high norepinephrine; not high levels of both neurotransmitters, as was originally thought.
Serotonin also plays a role in dozens of other disorders, and of course regular functioning as well.
As with many mental disorders, the chicken and egg dilemma arises.
Is anxiety caused by neurotransmitter imbalances, or does anxiety cause those imbalances? Anecdotal evidence seems to support both theories.
For example, some people have anxiety throughout their lives, which can exacerbate the neurotransmitter problems.
However, for those whose anxiety comes on abruptly with no history and no trigger, logic says that it must be an internal inconsistency which is causing it.
