- 1). Put on a work apron to keep your clothing clean and to avoid getting wood splinters and dust stuck in your clothes. Put on safety glasses and work gloves.
- 2). Position the jig in the miter gauge slot, and slide it away from the blade an amount equal to the desired thickness of the wood. Next, slide the jig about 4 to 5 inches in front of the table saw's blade. Lock the jig into position.
- 3). Slide the table saw's fence along the opposite edge of the board you wish to cut. Lock the fence into place.
- 4). Turn on the table saw. Make a practice cut on the board. Measure your practice cut with a ruler or, if the thickness must be very exact, with a digital caliper. If your cut needs to be a different thickness than your practice piece, adjust the bearing laterally. Make more practice cuts and adjust the bearing until achieving the correct thickness.
- 5). Move the table saw fence in along the opposite edge of the cut after every cut is made until you've finished cutting all your thin wood pieces.
