- Compact fluorescent lights (CFLs) are smaller versions of the regular-sized fluorescent bulbs. They can fit into a regular socket and give off light that looks like an incandescent bulb.
- Light emitting diode (LED) bulbs are highly energy-efficient. Newer versions come in clusters and diffuse light in a broader range. LED bulbs use even less energy than CFLs. These bulbs last for several years and can reduce maintenance and replacement cost over time. These bulbs even extend the battery life of handheld items like flashlights.
- Energy-efficient bulbs also come in a variety of colors to suit different needs. Red and green bulbs are good for night vision. Blue light makes reading easier, particularly for the elderly. Amber bulbs don't attract insects and are a good choice for outdoor lighting.
