Just Dance!

Kherington and Mark got a Jazz routine from Tyce as their second number. Tyce noted that there was no story or characters in this dance, which was simply about "feel[ing] the music" and "just dancing." Dancing to Jamiroquai's "Canned Heat" the routine was technically sound, but it lacked that little something that connects both the dancers and the steps. It wasn't a bad routine, but it wasn't very memorable.

Lil' C thought it was a "good routine" and that Kherington did a "wonderful job." However, he thought that Mark should show "more confidence" when doing the lifts. Mary said it was good, but that it didn't make her want to "jump out of [her] seat." She wanted to be "fired up" by their performance and she wasn't. Nigel thought it was like a "driving test" and while they were proficient enough to "pass the test" there was "nothing outstanding about it." There was nothing that would make people "get up and vote [for them]."

Hip-Hop Mastery

Comfort and Twitch got a Hip-Hop routine and considering they are both hip-hoppers, their choreographer, Dave, understated things when he said he expected the performance to be "somewhat tremendous." Set to Chris Brown's "Forever," the routine was like a master class in hip-hop. The movements were sharp, precise and also had that "added something" that elevated it beyond just dancers dancing choreographed steps. Lil' C said "that was kind of buck!" He went on to explain that buck meant when "internal artistry meets physical expression." Mary thought it was buck as well, saying it was "terrific." She singled out Comfort, saying she really "stepped up to the plate" with the routine.

Nigel thought the routine was so good, "it didn't look choreographed" and that it was "brilliant." He additionally praised Comfort and ended with a simple, "welcome back!"

Ballet + Contemporary = Pas De Deux

Yet another dance style made its debut on the show, this time it was the Pas de Deux which is best described as contemporary dance merging with balletic technique. Katee and Will were given the challenge of mastering this dance style, choreographed by one of the premier dancers of the genre - Desmond Richardson. Dancing to David Archuleta's version of John Lennon's "Imagine," the routine was lovely, and looked technically challenging with difficult lifts and twirls, all done with full leg extensions. There was a mistake early in the routine when Katee stumbled slightly during a pirouette while holding onto Will. Lil' C thought it was a "great routine" and that it had "passion, ardor [and] fervor." Mary thought it was "exquisite" and that it got her "right in the heart." Nigel commented on the early error, but noted that it actually worked for them in that they can build upon it. He said otherwise, it was "absolutely brilliant."

Not Evenly Matched

The final routine of the night was a Jive from Chelsie and Gev. Choreographed by Jean-Marc and set to Brian Setzer's "The House is Rockin,'" it was obvious that Gev was out of his element, particularly with his ballroom trained partner, Chelsie. She was moving much faster than him and the flick kicks really highlighted the discrepancies in their skills level. Nevertheless, it was an entertaining routine, and Gev gave it his all. Lil' C said that Chelsie "outstepped" Gev, who needed to "pick it up." Mary thought Chelsie "stole the show" and that the routine as a whole was a lot like "Dancing with the Stars [where a] professional [dances with] an amateur." Nigel said the performance "lifted all our spirits" but that Gev lacked the requisite "bounce" the dance required. He had it at places but at others, it was "staccato."

Ordinary Solos

All ten dancers also got a chance to perform a 30 second solo and much like the solos performed on elimination night, there was nothing really memorable about any of them. They all danced in their preferred styles and we didn't find any one dancer to be a standout. Honestly, we don't think any of the votes will boil down to the solos if past seasons are any indication.
