- 1). Seal all obvious entry points with caulk. Locate and caulk areas where you know the ants are entering your house. You may not be able to locate every possible crack where an ant can enter your house, but you can take away some of their options and get rid of places they already know about.
- 2). Clean with an insecticide around the entry points and along the trails they have walked. Ants leave a pheromone that other ants can trace. The insecticide washes the pheromone away.
- 3). Lock away all opened food in air-tight containers and clean up all food particles and crumbs around the house. Ants invade your house in pursuit of food. Removing the food removes their reason for being there. Remember also to lock up your pet's food.
- 4). Place bait traps outside your house. These traps tempt the ants with bait that contains poison. This poison contaminates ants that eat it, and then the poison is spread throughout the colony. These bait traps also serve as a distraction from your house as a source of food for the colony.
