- 1). Measure the duct opening in the wall. You will want to measure both the width and the height. Heat vents are sized using this measurement and the width is typically the first number.
- 2). Go to your local home improvement store and purchase the correct heat vent. For example, if you measured a width of 10 inches and a height of 6 inches, you'll look for a 10x6 heat vent.
- 3). Slide the flange on the back of the heat vent into the duct opening and push it in until the surface flange is flush against the wall.
- 4). Use the provided screws, and screw one side of the heat vent into the wall. Put a level on top of the heat vent, adjust the heat vent to level and screw the other side of the heat vent to the wall.
