- 1). Unload the weapon completely. Open the bolt and visually inspect the chamber to ensure that no live ammunition is present.
- 2). Close the bolt. Rotate the safety lever clockwise, until it points straight up. Pull the bolt to the rear.
- 3). Pivot the bolt-release lever located on the left side of the receiver. Simultaneously, remove the bolt from the weapon.
- 4). Push in the small retaining pin located on the bolt; it is located near the bolt handle on the bolt sleeve. Turn the bolt counterclockwise.
- 5). Unscrew the bolt sleeve completely. Withdraw the bolt from the sleeve.
- 6). Place your thumb on the extractor. This is the raised and ridged metal portion of the bolt. Rotate the extractor clockwise until it sits outside the groove located on the front of the bolt. Slide the extractor forward and off of the bolt.
- 7). Hold the firing-pin assembly upright. Position the firing pin on top of a block of wood. Grab the cocking sleeve. Push down firmly against the wood until the cocking sleeve clears the bolt sleeve. Turn the cocking sleeve one-quarter turn in either direction. Remove it from the pin assembly.
- 8). Release pressure from the bolt sleeve. Withdraw the main spring, allowing it to fully expand. Pull the bolt sleeve from the cocking sleeve. Pull off the main spring.
- 9). Turn the safety lever fully to the right. Pull out the safety lever.
