Guide Review - Kevin Maines - What I Am
There is a fairly wide range of song types found in this twelve track collection entitled 'What I Am.' From fast to slow and anywhere in between, Kevin proves he has what it takes to sing virtually anything that he finds or writes himself.[phttp://erclk.D106/?zi=1/ZF%5d Kevin hopes that we never go so far as to completely get rid of God in our lives in "We Don't Have A Prayer." With prayer being taken out of our schools he wonders if we'll one day forget that we're "One nation under God." "Pretty Lady" finds Kevin promising that he would do anything for the special love of his life. "Your smile captured my heart and soul and won't let go" he sings.
"What I Am," Kevin states in the next song, is a hard working, old-fashioned man, who believes that love is what makes the world go 'round. A picture perfect slice of Dixie is found on "Just A Southern Thing." From plantations to sweet magnolias, you would have to live there to appreciate the beauty.
"Rhythm & Rhyme" is about how much a song can grab your emotions. It can make you want to dance, laugh, or cry but that is the magic of something that comes from the heart and speaks to your soul. All that is left of the man's memories are "Five Tiny Holes" where pictures once hung. He then goes on to describe what was in each frame. "In The Yukon," finds Kevin singing about how you better go somewhere like Alaska to get over lonely nights because the sun shines for sixth months straight.
