A Child"s Fantasy

All children fantasize about being a superhero, a villain or both.
Play is the best way that a child uses his or her imagination to learn.
Sometimes it can be more fun to be the villain, since in everyday life there are rules to follow.
Stories of Frankenstein, Dracula and Werewolves captivate children with their stories of living on the dark side.
In some ways children empathize with these characters because they see the good in them and how they became who they are.
Dracula is a favorite character in that he is not seen as entirely evil in his thirst for blood.
He needs the blood as a form of food to live.
Children love the story of how he can live forever but in a different way than them.
The fact that a vampire lives at night and stays up all night is something they can only ever really think about.
Most vampire stories are too scary for a child but today there are authors who are making these mythical creatures come to life in a way that is appealing to both child and parent.
Stories about child vampires allow a child to relate to the vampire while not being threatened by it.
They learn learn about the legends and folklore while putting themselves in the shoes of the child vampire.
They also learn from the stories about how being different is something that is special and something that everyone has to deal with in one way of another.
Children today have advantages that other children of the past did not.
There were children stories and adult stories.
Now we have adult stories child proofed but still very appealing and filled with life lessons and real situations.
Children today appreciate more in depth stories and have a more sophisticated palette.
While back in the 1970's the big bad wolf dressed as a grandmother was intriguing enough, children today need more.
Bombarded with action on television, they need books that can take them deeper into their imaginations and capture their zest for adventure.
Books about vampires and other creatures of the night are just the ticket.
Boys and girls like, relish and delight in the understanding of how these creatures think and embarking on a lifestyle that they could never imagine.
Capturing their imaginations and desire for more grown up subject matter, these types of books are a big hit with the under 10 crowd.
