Budd's name is symbolic of a flower that will blossom.
The ship Bellipotent means power of war.
Capt.
Vere had to veer away from his feelings to honor the laws he has in place as the leader.
Claggart is clearly an evil character and after reading this book it makes me feel like evil and the law sometimes go hand in hand.
Billy Budd is a smart and handsome young man.
Claggart observed Budd and felt threatened and he thought that Budd was dangerous.
This could have been because of his physical stature as a man or also could be that Claggart felt like his position and future could be in jeopardy because of competition.
It was an incredibly energy packed moment.
Each of them were incredibly focused on the awkward situation.
"Speak Man!...
Speak! Defend Yourself!" It is easy to see how Billy Budd was anxious and on edge enough to strike a blow however innocently on his nose.
The other sailors respond positively and they use him as something of a warlord or hero.
The whole company or crew echoed what Budd's last words were and said "God bless Captain Vere".
They all carried on business as usual.
Terrorist might think they are fighting a war or their efforts are only a retaliation to their victims.
But in reality the victims usually never directly hurt them and that is why it is not considered a war but those hostile efforts are categorized as violent terrorist action.
Billy was charged with killing a man and this is considered so horrible because their progress during wartime takes a step backwards anytime they lose and man and this should never happen in the hands of a man on the same side.
Vere was able to serve as the witness and tell the story during the trial about what happened.
The people involved were the captain of the marines, the first lieutenant, and the sailing master.
Dilly admitted he was guilty of the punch but he claimed a lack of intention.
Admitted that he broke a law was enough to be a punishable offense so the crime had to fit the law and that is why Billy respected Vere.
