- Tendons are similar to ligaments, but ligaments are trough tissue that connect two bones together rather than a muscle to a bone.
- Tendonitis is a common ailment where a tendon becomes inflamed and painful due to high impact stress or repetitive use. This is one of the most common causes of pain around a joint.
- Hyperextension occurs when a tendon and/or muscle is stretched beyond its normal range of flexibility, which can cause sudden pain and decreased functionality of the muscle.
- A tendon rupture occurs when a strain is so severe that the tendon is cut or snaps off completely. A tendon rupture can cause a muscle to be ineffective at moving a joint, which may have to be addressed with surgery.
- Stretching is very important to maintain flexibility in the tendons, which can allow them to better resist tendonitis and strains; strengthening muscles surrounding a joint can also stabilize tendons.
