How to Make a Fishnet Pattern in Photoshop

    • 1). Open Adobe Photoshop. Click the "File" menu and select "New." Type "Fishnets" into the "Name" box. Type the dimensions for the pattern into the "Width" and "Height" boxes, such as "5" each for a square pattern. Select "inches" from each of the two drop-down menus. Click "White" for the "Background Contents" menu and click the "OK" button.

    • 2). Double-click the "Color Picker" at the bottom of the "Tools" pane. Select black and click the "OK" button.

    • 3). Click the "Paint Bucket" tool, which looks like its namesake, in the middle of the "Tools" pane. Click anywhere on the "Fishnets" canvas to fill it with black.

    • 4). Right-click the "Lasso" tool, third from the top on the "Tools" palette, and select "Polygonal Lasso Tool." If it is already selected, skip this step.

    • 5). Draw a diamond shape on the canvas by drawing four straight lines at angles, with the last line meeting up with the starting line. The tool automatically creates straight lines for you. The size of the diamond will determine whether your fishnets have large holes or a tight weave.

    • 6). Press the "Delete" key on the keyboard to open the "Fill" window. Pull down the "Use" menu and select "White." If the "Opacity" box doesn't already show "100" in the percentage field, type it in. Click the "OK" button and the first diamond fishnet cutout appears.

    • 7). Click the "Edit" menu and select "Copy." Click the "Edit" menu and select "Paste." Nothing much changes in the picture except a slight wiggle of the diamond.

    • 8). Click the "Move" tool at the top of the "Tools" pane. Drag the new diamond off the first and position it directly next to the first, horizontally.

    • 9). Press the "Ctrl" and "V" keys to paste in another diamond. Drag it into place next to the second.

    • 10

Continue pressing "Ctrl" and "V" till you get to the end of the row. For added dimension, let the last diamond hang off the canvas with the appearance of being cut off.

    • 11

Press "Ctrl" and "V" to start the next row. Drag the diamond up and in between the first two diamonds, leaving a very thin black line, the line of the actual fishnet. Press "Ctrl" and "V" to add the next diamond in between the next two in the line.

    • 12

Continue pasting diamonds until the entire canvas is "cut out" with the diamonds and the fishnet pattern is in place.

    • 13

Right-click any of the layers in the "Layers" palette on the right side of the screen. Choose "Flatten Image." Click the "File" menu and click the "Save" option.
