- 1). Lay a white tablecloth on the table.
- 2). Center the plate where each person will sit. Although paper plates are acceptable, try to make the occasion special by purchasing higher-quality or colored plates.
- 3). Place a napkin to the left of the plate. Paper napkins are acceptable, but purchase higher quality or colored napkins that match the plates. The leader conducting the Seder should have a linen napkin to hide the afikomen--a children's prize. Place this to the left of the first napkin.
- 4). Place the flatware on top of the napkin; moving left to right, position the spoon, knife and then the fork.
- 5). Place the clear wine glass---or pre-filled communion-sized cups---at the top of the plate. Although wine is traditionally used at the Passover, you can substitute grape juice.
- 6). Place a water glass at the top of the napkin.
- 7). Set the printed Seder Haggadah (order of the service) in the center of each plate. Place the leader's Haggadah prayer book to the left of his linen napkin.
- 8). Set white candles with candlesticks in front of the leader's place setting.
- 9). Place a three-tiered plate with matzah bread in front of the leader. Other traditional ceremonial foods should be placed next to the leader, as well.

Set up an optional symbolic place setting for the Prophet Elijah on a small side table. Set Elijah's place as you did other table settings, but with nicer dishes, flatware and stemware.
