How to Handle Criticism

If you've ever been in the limelight- as the leader of a group or organization or as a star of any sort, you will probably know what it is like to be criticized.
I've had the privilege of serving as an executive in a particular body for almost four years now and of recent, I've been receiving a regular dose of sharp critical remarks.
At a stage, I got completely fed up and wanted to resign because I felt I wasn't appreciated.
But then, would I do that if I were to be the president of the nation? What would you do if you were to be in a position that constantly places you under attack? 1.
Have a goal: When you know what you want to achieve by being where you are, your primary evaluation will come from how far you've gone in relation to your goal, and not the opinions of other people.
2.
Keep a strong cabinet of trusted allies: Have people around you who can tell you the truth, no matter how bad it is.
But be sure they are also people who would honestly tell you when you are doing well.
Every human being needs a combination of praise and rebuke to function at a peak.
Don't allow yourself to be over dragged towards a particular direction.
3.
Evaluate criticism objectively: Hearing out your critics is important.
Know what they have in mind and ask yourself (and your objective close circle) if you are guilty.
If you need to change some things, do so.
4.
Don't let the comments get inside you: A ship can stay above water for as long as the water stays on the outside.
Don't let the comments get at you.
Adopt the point of view of someone who is not the victim and refuse to be bothered by them.
Don't allow your attitude to change.
5.
Strive harder: Work even harder: This will in time, shut the mouths of your critics.
Remember that all the great people who have ever lived have been severely criticized.
Jesus was not only criticized, he was even killed!
