It is certainly nice to live in the greatest nation in the world, it is also very nice to live in a wonderful community with lots of volunteers, and so many people do care.
One thing that has always bothered me, because I've been involved in community efforts all my life is that when a volunteer is in the community doing wonderful things, everyone loves them.
However, as soon as they wish to go to the next step, perhaps to run for city Council, or County Commissioner, then the attack dogs come out of the woodwork to discredit them, destroy their personal character, and condemn them calling them all sorts of nonsense that is so far from reality it makes you wonder who these people are that are causing all this chaos and controversy.
We must stop punishing, and trashing our best community volunteers, due to our petty politics.
It is something that is so outrageous, so demoralizing, and so dishonest it makes me want to puke.
I've known some super great people in my life who would do anything for their community, and so they choose to run for City Council so they can do a bit more, because they keep running into the bureaucracy every time they try to do good.
Their motives and intentions are very clear and very pure.
If we want to get good people in government we are going to have to stop this character assassination of these wonderful volunteer types in our community.
If we only allow Machiavellian politicians to run our cities and counties, who later go on to run state government, and eventually end up as Congressman, then we are going to continue to make the same mistakes we've always made.
We are going to get the worst possible people in our government.
I hope you will please consider this, as it is something that has concerned me for a long time.
