6 Guidelines to Follow When Popping Blackheads

Blackheads are the worst type of acne that you can get.
Unlike pimples or zits, blackheads are more difficult to get rid of.
They do not easily disappear when applied with various blackhead removers.
Because of that, more people opt for the typical way of popping their blackheads, which can lead to more serious consequences if not performed properly.
Hence, below are some of the guidelines that you should follow when popping blackheads.
1.
Sterilize extractors
If you are using extractors to pop blackheads, make sure that it is clean before using it.
Extractors that are made of steel can be sterilized to totally free them from any harmful bacteria that might cause further infection on your skin.
Place your extractor in a pot of water and let it boil for around 15 minutes.
Then, let it cool down before using it.
2.
Wash your face thoroughly
Another thing that you should always remember when popping blackheads is to work with a clean face.
Make sure you have washed your face thoroughly with a facial wash or mild soap.
If you work with unwashed face, you are increasing your risk of getting further infections.
This could only worsen your skin problem.
3.
Wash your hands
If it is important to wash your face prior to getting rid of blackheads, then the same goes with washing your hands since you are using them to navigate all over your face.
Before sterilizing your extractors, make sure you have already washed your hands with a soap or hand wash to prevent the spread of bacteria to your face.
4.
Steam your skin to open pores
This is the most essential step in popping blackheads.
Hence, make sure you do not forget it.
With pores open, blackheads are exposed to the surface of the skin that makes them easier to eradicate.
To soften your skin and open your pores, you can place a warm towel over your clean face for a few minutes.
You can also steam your face over boiling water.
To hold in steam, drape a towel over your head.
5.
Apply gentle pressure
Always remember not to press too hard or too long when extracting blackheads to avoid damage on the skin, which could lead to scarring.
To remove blackheads, encircle the affected area with the use of the sterilized blackhead remover and apply gentle pressure until the ooze comes out.
You don't have to apply a sweeping motion since the pressure is enough to get rid of the blackheads.
Once the blackhead comes out, remove your extractor right away to prevent bruising.
6.
Put anti-septic cream over the affected areas
After extraction, do not forget to apply any anti-septic cream over the affected areas.
This cream provides a soothing sensation that also prevents bacterial and fungal skin infections.
There are several kinds of anti-septic creams that can be bought over-the-counter.
But, if you have sensitive skin, you can consult your doctor for a prescription.
