- 1). Open the Virtual Machine Settings window by clicking "VM" at the top of the virtual machine's window, then clicking "Settings."
- 2). Click the network card, for example "NIC 1," in the "Hardware" list in the Virtual Machine Settings window.
- 3). Set the installed network card's status by clicking the check boxes under "Device Status." Have the Network Card connect automatically when your virtual machine boots by clicking "Connect At Power On" if its check box is not checked.
- 4). Change the adapter type. Click "vlance" or "vmxnet" under "Adapter Type." Vlance is an emulated version of common hardware that most operating systems include support for, so it will work with no guest operating system configuration. VMXNET is a custom VMWare device type optimized for maximum virtual machine performance, it only functions with the VMWare drivers installed in your virtual machine.
- 5). Select a type of network connection. Make the virtual machine appear on your network as a separate physical machine by clicking "Bridged," share the host computer's network address by clicking "NAT" or only network the virtual machine with the host computer by clicking "Host-Only."
- 6). Apply your setting changes by clicking "OK."
- 7). Reboot your Virtual Machine using its guest operating system's "Restart" command.
