- 1). Print out a template (homelife.com) on your home printer. Cut out the four sides and bottom shapes with a pair of scissors
- 2). Trace each of the five shapes onto a sheet of 1/16-inch-thick plywood craft wood. Cut the shapes out with a handsaw or jigsaw.
- 3). Draw vertical or horizontal lines down one face of two of the side shapes. Make a thicker line 1/3 down from the top of two of the side pieces. Write the word “Popcorn” in those thicker lines. Use a small paintbrush to paint the lines, alternating between red and white acrylic paint. Make the thicker line white. Paint the word “Popcorn” red on these sides.
- 4). Paint the remaining two sides red. Once the paint dries, paint the word “Popcorn” in white, vertically down the sides. Paint one side of the bottom piece red. Allow all pieces to dry thoroughly, about 3 to 5 hours.
- 5). Paint the unpainted sides of all pieces white, and let the paint dry completely.
- 6). Paint or spray a waterproof wood sealant onto both sides of the wood pieces. Allow the sealant to dry completely, about 12 hours.
- 7). Lay the bottom piece with the white side facing up. Line the edges of the piece with wood glue. Line the bottom, narrow edge of each side piece with wood glue. Line the vertical edges of each piece with wood glue. Set the side pieces on the bottom piece so the striped sides and solid sides are opposite each other. Press the pieces together and hold them there firmly for 10 minutes while the glue sets.
- 8). Tie a piece of string around the top, middle and bottom of the box to help it hold its shape while the glue dries. Allow the box to dry completely, about 12 hours.
- 9). Wash the box before using. Make additional boxes until you have the number you require.
