- 1). Boil at least 2 quarts of water in a large pot on a stove.
- 2). Place the feeding bottle and nipple into the boiling water for five minutes to sterilize them. Remove the bottle and nipple with a pair of tongs and place them upside-down on a clean towel until they are cool enough to touch.
- 3). Read the instructions on the milk replacement or calf formula package to ensure you know how to correctly mix the amount of milk you need.
- 4). Pour the milk replacement or calf formula into the bottle, and add the proper amount of warm water.
- 5). Stir the milk replacement or calf formula until it is completely dissolved, and secure the nipple onto the bottle. Do not try to simply shake the bottle to mix it--you will not be able to dissolve all of the formula this way.
- 6). Sit down and gently hold the baby cow in your lap, if it is small enough. Otherwise, stand directly in front of it.
- 7). Drip the milk onto its nose and mouth so that it will know to start suckling, and then put the nipple into the calf's mouth.
- 8). Feed the baby cow until it has suckled all of the milk and no more remains in the bottle.
