- 1). Sculpt a mountain from clay and place on one end of a plastic shoe box. The sloped side of the mountain should face the interior of the shoebox.
- 2). Pour water into the shoebox until about one-fourth of the mountain is covered to create an ocean. Put the lid back on the shoebox.
- 3). Place a petri dish covered with ice on top of the shoebox, over the mountain.
- 4). Place a lamp over the ocean side of the shoebox and turn the lamp on.
- 5). Observe what happens. The water in the ocean will be evaporated by the lamp. As the water vapor cools near the ice, condensation will take place. The drops of water that run down the side of the shoebox simulate precipitation.
