Like it or not, human beings have never worked well together in large groups for long.
This is especially true for Democracies, and Republicans and Democrats.
The stronger and wealthier have always used their greater resources to work things in their favor amid societies; and by the same token, the stronger and wealthier societies themselves have always found ways to dominate their weaker and poorer neighbors and competition.
True freedom, though natural to Americans, has always been rare around the globe throughout human history.
The common good has never been too common.
The only way that people in large units gain greatly is if each member is willing to sacrifice personally for the greater common good.
However, the error of many cultures that have even understood this fact has been that they took this principle so much to the extreme that it was mangled and distorted.
The same is true today.
Socialism and Communism ARE NOT the answer.
They NEVER have been.
Republicans and Democrats should know this by now.
There is a huge difference in a people willingly cooperating by choice versus being forced to sacrifice by some inhumane and austere government without a face or personality.
As we know, a truly free people is governed by a government of, for, and by themselves - not through force or simply the richest caste or class.
The Founding Fathers of the United States mutually pledged their lives and possessions together to achieve their stated goal of Independence from England.
While maintaining personal freedoms, they willingly endured various burdens and restraints to be successful in their God-Ordained endeavor.
While being individually free, they were still more interested in their home states and the nation as a whole, as opposed to themselves.
Today's Republicans and Democrats each are often out for themselves.
Like the great mathematician and economist John Nash realized, we all do good when we each pursue our own best interests as Adam Smith said; but, we can do even better than that if we tweek our behavior and manage our own efforts based upon what our cohorts are also doing.
This holds true for both economical and governmental actions.
The common good should be our optimal goal.
The time has come for all Americans, whether Republicans or Democrats or in the Middle, to start seeing ourselves as one group again, instead of as a few warring sects and ideologies.
Each of us are Americans first, and Republicans, Democrats, Libertarians, Independents, or whatever else second.
The whole philosophy of each political ideology is to obtain a better America, or at least it always has been in the past.
We simply have differing opinions as to how to achieve the common good and aims.
My best advice is that we all, regardless of religious or political affiliations, (Republicans or Democrats) get back to the basics of the Constitution upon which we were founded.
It has rarely done us wrong in the past, and the folks that wrote it were a smart bunch of people.
It was crafted in much simpler times, but as a living document that can easily be looked to in the modern world as well.
Its basic principles transcend time and space, and equate to any century.
That is the beauty of it.
Republicans and Democrats need to unite for the common good.
