- The Nintendo Wii is one of the most interactive gaming consoles on the market, but there are a few things that players need to take into consideration before using the Wii console to avoid seizures, electric shock, damage to personal property or even heart failure.
- Around one in 4,000 people experience blackouts or seizures while playing the Nintendo Wii. If you are prone to either one of these hazards, it is recommended that you do not play, or watch someone play, the Nintendo Wii until you have talked to your doctor about it. Even after discussing the matter with your doctor, sit or stand far away from the television set in a well-lit room, do not play when you start to become tired, and take frequent breaks during gameplay.
- There is a hazard of electric shock when playing the Nintendo Wii. Follow proper directions when hooking up your Wii. Always fully plug in the AC power plug. Use only the AC plug that comes in the box with the Wii system. If you need to replace a broken power adapter, contact Nintendo -- do not attempt to buy a similar adapter. Do not play the Wii during lightning storms.
- Do not use the Nintendo Wii near a pacemaker. The Wii console can disrupt the device or temporarily disable it.
- Fully secure the wrist strap that is attached to the Wii remote. There have been many cases in which people, for instance in "Wii Bowling," swing their arm, lose grip on the controller, and throw the remote through the television set. It is also recommended to wipe off your hands if sweat builds up on them. Make sure you have room to move your arms all the way around without touching anything before playing games on the Wii console.
