Have you ever felt like no one really cares about your OCD? Have you ever felt like people are just tired of hearing about your OCD? They may say thing to you like, "Why don't you just quit that and be normal like everyone else?" Or, "That's just all in your head, you've got to fight that!" They may be right about having to fight it and it all being in your head, but it's pretty insensitive of them to say it like that.
What you need to do is realize that the person who is saying these things does not have enough information about the situation to have any say in the matter.
You don't have to tell them that, just know that, that way when they say something insensitive you will know not to take it to heart because they really don't know what they're talking about.
You have an advantage by having the privilege of having to go through OCD because it really makes you stronger and once you get through it, it gives you a sense of accomplishment that most people never feel in their entire lives.
Achieving success over OCD also will show you ways to control your mind and yourself that will help you for the rest of your life in more ways that you could ever imagine! Learn who to talk to about your OCD.
Don't waste your time talking about it to someone who just doesn't want to listen! Don't do that to yourself! Only talk to people who care and who want to talk to you about it.
Don't over do it either.
You don't want to scare them away from being there for you if you make them talk about it for three hours in a row, 15-20 should be the longest that you talk about it with them unless they want to talk about it more.
Psychologically, they will want to help you more if you cut it off at 15-20 minutes.
Whoever walks away first has more pulling power in the situation most times.
Cutting the time you talk about your OCD to that person short will show them that you are a soldier and that you are not helpless.
People are drawn to this quality.
Use this to your advantage to keep your support group around you.
If you have already scared off your support group, meet new people in chat rooms and OCD forums and do what this article tells you.
Take action: Don't try to convince someone to talk to you about your OCD.
Only talk to those who want to talk to you about it.
Then when you find someone that wants to talk to you about it, cut the time short to 15-20 minutes unless they indicate that they want to talk about it longer and periodically try to cut the time short.
This will help to keep them around long-term or however long you want them around.
