Rupert Grint is probably best known for his role as Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter movies. He has appeared in all of the movies alongside his co-stars Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson. He shot to fame in 2001 following the release of the initial Harry Potter movie, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (the Philosopher's Stone in the UK).
Rupert Grint was brought into the world in a town called Harlowe in England on August 24th, 1988. He is one of five children with a brother and three sisters. Prior to being cast in the Harry Potter movie series, he had only ever performed in school plays and performances. He wanted to audition for the Harry Potter movies because he was a fan of the books.
Rupert heard about the Harry Potter auditions through the BBC website and was desperate to win the part. He sent in an audition tape in which he impersonated his drama teacher. Following this initial tape he had to go through a further six auditions that involved speaking lines from the script and doing a screen test. Finally he was awarded the role as Ron Weasley at the age of 11.
Immediately Harry Potter fans around the world took to Rupert's performance in the movies. He also got great reviews from movie critics for his portrayal of Ron. Following this he won several awards for his performances, including the Independent Press Academy's Golden Satellite-Special Achievement Award for "Outstanding New Talent".
Other movies he has been in following his success in Harry Potter include: Thunderpants (2002) in which he played a science nerd and Driving Lessons, with Julie Walters (2006). The former was a box office flop and received bad reviews, but the latter was well received and earned him acclaim for his clever performance. He has also done radio work with the BBC.
In 2010, Grint has three movies that are set for release. These include: Cherrybomb, Wild Target and the much anticipated first part of the final Harry Potter book to be made into a movie - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part One. In 2011 the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part Two will be released. He is also in negotiations for a movie titled Eddie the Eagle Edwards.
It seems that Rupert Grint will have no problems branching out from the Harry Potter franchise to form a successful acting career. He has consistently received good reviews for his on screen work in the Harry Potter movies and his other projects. In fact, critics of the latest Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince claimed that Rupert was the stand out among the three stars of the movie.
