Misleading Titles: Scary Movies That Aren"t

Viewer beware: before you snatch up that horror movie from the video store shelf, double-check to make sure it's really a horror movie. If you aren't careful, you might end up with one of these same-name doppelgangers.


The Believers (2006)

What you expect: The 1987 tale of man's battle to save his son from the clutches of an evil voodoo cult.
What you get: A documentary about the first ever entirely transgender gospel choir.


Carrie (1952)

What you expect: The 1976 story of a bullied teenage girl who uses her telekinesis to exact bloody revenge on her tormentors, based on the novel Carrie by Stephen King.

Hannibal (2006)

What you expect: A 2001 sequel to The Silence of the Lambs about serial killer Hannibal Lecter's attempts to avoid capture by the FBI and a vengeful millionaire.
What you get: A made-for-TV biopic of the 3rd century BC Carthaginian military commander Hannibal.


High Tension (1936)

What you expect: A grisly 2003 French film about a woman attempting to rescue her friend from a sadistic serial killer.
What you get: A comedy about a man who balks at marrying his girlfriend but doesn't want her to date anyone else either.


It (1927)

What you expect: A 1990 adaptation of the Stephen King novel about a demonic creature who lures children to their deaths.
