- 1). Find the positive and negative leads on the battery case, using the volt meter, before you begin taking it apart. Mark on the case which lead is negative and which is positive. This will assist you in reassembling your cordless drill battery pack.
- 2). Remove the small screws on the battery case and place them in a small container for later reassembly. Unscrew the cordless drill battery case to open and reveal the battery cells to recondition.
- 3). Note that the case contains a small spring that can pop out when you open the battery pack. Carefully open the battery pack and save the spring with the screws.
- 4). Lift out the bundled battery cells from inside the case; they should pull out together as one entire unit.
- 5). Note the point where the wires go into the silver cardboard insulator from the battery terminal piece. Mark this opening for reassembly purposes.
- 6). Carefully remove the top terminal battery piece using needle-nose pliers. Set this piece aside with the screws and spring.
- 7). Use electrical tape to insulate the exposed metal band. This metal piece will be hot during the battery reconditioning process. Wrapping it in tape will protect you from injury.
- 8). Remove the silver cardboard insulation piece and set aside. Cut open any shrink wrap located on the batteries just enough to expose the top and bottom leads. There is no need to separate each individual cell from the pack for reconditioning.
- 9). Test each individual rechargeable battery cell with a battery tester to determine if it will need to be refurbished. Mark each cell to be refurbished so you can differentiate between the cells during the refurbishing process.

Stop and put on all safety gear, including at the very least, safety goggles, insulated gloves and a longsleeve shirt. - 11
Select the first battery cell to be reconditioned. Find the positive and negative leads on this cell. The positive end should be raised and the negative end should be flat. - 12
Prepare you 12-volt battery power source with alligator clamps. Take the black clamp and hold it against the negative end of the cell. Simultaneously, take the red clamp and hold it against the positive end of the cell. Hold the clamps in place for no longer than two seconds. - 13
Retest the battery cell to see if it took the charge. If not, zap it again. This process can be repeated up to 10 times per battery cell. - 14
Recondition all marked batteries within the battery pack. - 15
Reassemble the battery pack.
