Mika Boorem and Brie Larson Talk About "Sleepover

The teen romantic comedy "Sleepover" finds a group of not-so-popular girls taking on the popular kids in a battle for the prime lunch spot on campus.

MIKA BOOREM ('Hannah'):

What was the experience like filming ?Sleepover??
This movie was so much fun. It was the first film I?ve done that?s had other girls my age in it. We were always on set dancing and giggling and singing. There was always someone to talk to.

It was a lot of fun.

It was a good thing that we did get along because we were in that tiny little green car (laughing). That was meant for two people and we had four girls crammed in there. So if we didn?t get along, that would be pretty bad.

How did they manage to get everyone to fit?
They had to choreograph it. The first time we got in it just did not work at all. And so when they closed the door, we all had to squeeze really tight.

"Sleepover" takes place right before your character goes to high school. Are you in school now?
I?m in 10th grade right now, so I?m right in the middle of high school. I?m currently doing homeschooling. But before that I?d always gone to regular school and I think I?m going to go back to regular school soon, too. Maybe next year.

Were you considered a dork or one of the popular kids?
A little bit of both. I mean, I was always going in and out so I just had my close group of friends.

INTERVIEW WITH BRIE LARSON ('Liz'):

Was it crazy on the set?
It was soooo crazy because we?ve got 20 15 year-olds and everybody was so nice.

We were all just there to have a great time. And our director was young, too, so he wanted it to be as fun as possible and all get to know each other.

Did you think working with all those teen girls might have made him decide to never direct again?
(Laughing) I felt like that sometimes because we all just wanted to have fun. We were always laughing and goofing and dancing but you know, he?s so incredibly talented and I love him so much, I think that he was pretty much what made the movie so much fun because he really wanted us to get to know each other. He had us go miniature golfing and do all this really fun stuff and get to know our characters, and I think it shows in the movie.

And you participated in a real sleepover, right?
Yeah, we had a sleepover. It was so much fun. We were bouncing on the beds. We were sliding across the beds because the sheets on top were really slippery. We were doing it like a Slip ?n Slide. It was the day after Halloween so we all brought out Halloween candy and we were playing Truth or Dare and eating all this candy. We stayed up until 6 in the morning and we got like an hour?s sleep. Then we got up at 7 and went to Universal Studios. It was crazy.

The guys in this movie are pretty cute. Any romantic hook-ups on the set?
No, no romance on the set. I wish I had some juicy details to give you (laughing). Some of the guys had girlfriends and it was more like we all hung out and played charades and stuff. It was more of a ?friendly? thing.

Were you a dork or a popular kid in school?
I was a dork. I was the drama geek. In school, I didn?t really care. I look back at my yearbook pictures and I swear those are going to haunt me, my 7th grade yearbook photo. I?m wearing this striped shirt so when I?m looking for myself I?m like, ?Where?s Waldo?? My striped shirt is really bad. I?m so embarrassed of it. I?ve told all my friends to cut it out so it doesn?t get anywhere. I know one day I?m going to be on ?Jay Leno? and they?ll be like, ?Oh wow, we have this beautiful photo,? and I?m just going to be so embarrassed.

Or on one of those "E True Hollywood" segments.
Exactly. So I know it?s going to haunt me ? so whatever (laughing).

I can?t believe you were ever a geek.
No one believes me but I really was because I just didn?t really care. It was cool to do this movie and play the popular girl and kind of get to re-live the whole junior high experience and do it all over again.

What?s up next for you?
Right now I just got a record deal with Universal. It?s amazing. So I?m writing music, playing the guitar, that sort of stuff.

How do you divide your time between acting and writing music?
You know what? Honestly, because I just finished doing "Sleepover" and I?ve been doing press for it, I really haven?t had time to do any other films right now. I just signed on to do an independent film. So I?ve kind of been juggling it. It?s pretty hard. The main thing is that whenever I have a day off, I just go in the recording studio and write a new song. It?s a way for me to deal with stress and relax and hang out with the producers and write a song and sing it. For me, it?s a way of relaxing and I love it. I do it whenever I have free time.
