- 1). Download the application from Microsoft and run the installation according to the on-screen instructions.
- 2). Open SSMSE by clicking the icon on your desktop.
- 3). Type the server name or IP address in the "Server name" box.
- 4). Select the appropriate authentication type. Windows Authentication uses the credentials of the current Windows user to establish a connection. If you select SQL Server Authentication, you must enter the user name and password. You must choose the authentication type that is configured on your server.
- 5). Click "Options" to set the default database, protocol and time-out settings, if desired.
- 6). Click "Connect" to establish a connection.
- 7). Click the option for the action you would like to perform. Clicking "New Query" creates a blank query window, allowing you to type any commands you would like to perform. You can explore tables and views by clicking the plus signs to the left of each category in the left segment of the screen.
