- 1). Connect the red and black measurement probes to the multimeter. The red probe should be connected to the positive terminal and the black probe should be connected to the negative terminal.
- 2). Switch on the multimeter by rotating the dial on the front clockwise. Select the desired measurement function by rotating the dial on the front to the correct label. There is a choice of AC voltage, DC voltage, DC current or resistance. Within each measurement function there is a sub-selection to choose the range. Select a suitable range. If unsure about the range, set it to the highest value.
- 3). Connect the the measurement probes to the electrical component that is being measured. The display on the front of the multimeter should show a reading. Voltage readings are measured in volts, current readings are measured in amps and resistance readings are measured in ohms.
